Maintenance Guidelines for Deep Engraving Lasers

To ensure that the laser machine can operate at high efficiency over the long term, it is important to maintain the stability of the parameters. They provide practical skills in maintenance, calibration, and problem solving to help users extend the life of their equipment and improve the quality of their work.Whether you want to clean the machine, or adjust its parameters, you can find a simple method to do so.

Why is it so important for lasers to have stable parameters?

The stability of the parameters of a laser engraving machine directly determines the precision of the finished product and the machine's service life.If the power or speed fluctuates too much, the laser may burn the lens or the tube.Especially for machines that work long hours under heavy loads, regular maintenance and calibration are just as important as regular car maintenance.

These are the three keys to daily maintenance.

The lenses and tracks should be kept clean.

The dust and oil produced during carving is most likely to adhere to the lens and the guide rail.It is recommended that you wipe the lens with an alcohol pad and brush the track with a soft brush after each use.Never use paper towels to wipe them, or you'll scratch the lenses. The cost of repair will be a lot more than you imagine.

The cooling system should be checked often.

The laser tube and main circuit board are most susceptible to heat.Every week or two, check to see that the fans are spinning normally and that the air vents are not clogged. If the studio is warm in the summer, a small fan can be set to blow on the machine. It's simple, but effective.

The tightness of the screw is checked periodically.

The vibration of the equipment can cause screws to loosen, especially the screws holding the focusing lenses. Each month he would take a screwdriver and give all the screws a turn to check the feel, and tighten any that were loose.

The calibration process is so simple that even a novice can do it.

Don't be put off by power tests.

First we do a test on scrap material. We use 10 % power intervals to etch lines, to see the actual results. If there is no difference between 30 % and 50 % power, it means the laser tube is aging, and it should be returned for testing.

The golden combination of speed and focal length.

Different materials require different parameters. For example, when carving wood, if the speed is too fast, the edges are likely to be blurred. You can use scrap material to test it first: set a fixed power level, and gradually adjust the speed until you find the setting that produces the clearest edges. Then write this setting on a label and attach it to the side of the machine.

What do you do when the parameters are abnormal?

First, do these three basic checks.

1. Turn the equipment off and then on again to try again (a common problem with electronic equipment).

2. Check to see if the data cable is firmly plugged in.

3. Check if the parameters have been accidentally changed.

Common faults and their solutions.

Uneven depth of carving: 90 % is due to dirty lenses or incorrect focusing.

If the computer stops working in the middle of a session: Check the cooling system and the power supply.

- Automatic reset of parameters: The motherboard battery may need replacing.

If you get into the habit of spending five minutes doing a basic check before starting work every day, you will find that the number of times the laser suddenly breaks down is at least halved. The equipment is just like a person. You have to treat it with care, and then it will produce good results.
