Laser Marking Machine Lens Cleaning Tutorial: 3 Steps to Clear Marking

The cleanliness of a laser marking machine's lenses has a direct impact on the quality of the marking, and here we provide a three-step cleaning procedure to solve the problem of blurry markings. The manual includes recommendations for cleaning tools, instructions for operating the device, and tips for maintaining the lens, all of which help extend the life of the lens and ensure that the marking is clear.

Why is it so important to keep the eyepieces clean?

The lenses of a laser marking machine are like its "eyes." Once they become dirty, smudged, or fingerprinted, the markings will be blurred. In particular, after long-term use, the accumulation of contaminants on the lens surface will accelerate the aging process.Regular cleaning not only improves the quality of the markings, but also saves the expense of replacing lenses.

Don't be sloppy when preparing cleaning tools.

Choose the right cleaning products.

Never, ever use paper tissue or regular cloth to clean the lens, because they will only leave behind lint. Instead, use a professional dust-free cloth and alcohol (99 % or higher). This combination will dissolve the dirt, but leave no lint.If you can't get hold of pure ethanol, you can use a lens cleaner instead.

The environment in which the machine operates must be considered.

Before cleaning, turn off the machine and wait until it has completely cooled.Find a spot with little dust, such as a closed workshop, to avoid getting new dust on the items while cleaning. They wear anti-static gloves to keep their sweat from getting on the lens.

The three-step cleaning process.

Step 1: Blow off surface dust.

Blow the lens with a hair dryer.Don't let the nozzle of the can touch the lens, and keep about 10 centimeters between the can and the lens. If you get too close, condensation will form.

Step 2: Wipe in a single direction.

Fold the dust-free cloth in half twice, then add 2-3 drops of cleaning solution.Wipe from the center of the lens to the edge, in a sunflower petal-like radiating motion. If there are still stubborn stains, turn the cloth over and repeat, but don't rub it back and forth vigorously.

Step three: Check the transparency.

After cleaning the lens, hold it up to the light at a slant. If it is up to standard, it should look like an empty windowpane, completely transparent and without any rainbow patterns. If water stains remain, wipe them away with a dry dust-free cloth.

Tips for daily care.

The lenses are checked at least once a week, and if the laser is used frequently, then the checks are done every three days.If the machine is not in use, cover it up to prevent dust from getting in. In humid southern areas, put a few packets of desiccant in the cabinet. If you find that the coating has been scratched or has worn off, get in touch with the manufacturer as soon as possible to arrange a replacement.
